On Friday, December 20, 2024, the Contra Costa Crisis Center, in partnership with Contra Costa Health Services, NAMI Contra Costa, Safe Organized Spaces, Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa and Contra Costa Continuim of Care will hold a special observance in honor of Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day.
The event will take place at the Walnut Creek Library’s Oakview Room (1644 North Broadway, Walnut Creek, CA 94596) and online, creating a shared space for the community to honor the lives of those who have tragically passed away while facing homelessness.
Held annually around December 21st, this memorial aligns with the winter solstice, the longest night of the year. It’s a deeply meaningful day to remember the humanity in every life lost and to raise awareness about the lives lived with resilience amid difficult circumstances. From 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, attendees will gather for a solemn reading of names from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by lunch, generously donated by Loaves and Fishes, from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM.
Sponsored by the National Consumer Advisory Board, the National Coalition for the Homeless, and the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day aims to remind us all of the urgent need for compassion, care, and solutions to end homelessness.
Community members are encouraged to attend in person or virtually. Those joining virtually can log on via Zoom using this link: https://homebaseccc.zoom.us/j/83945193528
